Author Visits

Encouraging children to read and enjoy books at a young age is crucial to their later development and can promote higher language and IQ scores throughout childhood into the teen years and beyond.

The benefits of reading to younger children include:

·       Developing connection time and encouraging concentration.

·       Developing language skills and cognitive growth

·       Stimulating the imagination and understanding of the world

·       Developing comprehension skills

·       Encouraging listening skills

·       Expanding vocabulary

·       Providing a moral compass

The National Literacy Trust has recently reported that children’s enjoyment of reading is at an all-time low since they began surveying children in 2005. In 2023 only 43% of children aged 8-18 said they enjoyed reading in their free time. Boys enjoy reading less than girls (40% compared to 45%). However, if reading is made fun and interactive, enjoyment can increase significantly.

Thank you.

“I’d like to say a big THANK YOU to my friends and family for supporting me in my creative endeavours! A special thanks goes to John Horgan for creating the musical score (available via the contact tab) and to Luke Purcell for creating the website. A big shout out also goes to a special group of students at Stone Lodge School and their music teacher Steve Muzio, and videographer Grace Wellcoat.”
